MANILA — Actress-singer Sharon Cuneta has joined other public figures calling on Leni Robredo to reconsider a possible presidential bid in 2028, despite the latter’s earlier statement ruling out a national comeback.
Robredo, now serving as mayor of Naga City, previously said she is no longer considering another run for national office following her 2022 presidential bid.
“Malayo na sa horizon ko na babalik pa ako sa national,” the lawyer-politician said, citing ongoing work in Naga and the limited three-year term to implement reforms.
Robredo ran for president in 2022 but lost to Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the running mate of then vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte.
Despite her remarks, Cuneta publicly appealed to Robredo through an Instagram post, urging her to reconsider.
“Dearest Ma’am Leni, PLEASE RECONSIDER… You are the one who can unite these different parties,” Cuneta wrote. “You have proven na ipaglalaban niyo ang PILIPINAS.”
Cuneta also advised Robredo to select a strong running mate should she decide to run, saying it could help broaden support.
Her husband, Francis Pangilinan, was Robredo’s vice presidential running mate in 2022. He later returned to the Senate in 2025.
“Ma’am, mas madami na pong ‘di hamak na umaasa sa inyo ngayon… Please, Ma’am Leni,” Cuneta added. “We are all storming the heavens with our prayers for you to change your mind and run once more-just one more time po Ma’am, for President.”
Cuneta said support for Robredo appears to be growing, expressing hope that the former vice president would reconsider her decision.
She also shared that her and Pangilinan’s adopted son, Miguel, would visit Robredo in Naga to personally speak with her and remind her of a message she conveyed during Pangilinan’s victory dinner last May.
