MANILA — AirAsia Philippines released updated guidelines on the use and carriage of power banks and electronic devices, aiming to address safety risks during flights.

The airline said the revised policy aligns with international aviation safety standards to minimize the risk of battery-related incidents onboard.

Under the new rules, passengers are allowed to bring a maximum of two power banks, each with a capacity not exceeding 100Wh. These must be properly stored under the seat or in the seat pocket. Defective power banks will be confiscated.

The airline clarified that power banks are treated separately from spare batteries, which are required to be placed in cabin baggage and individually secured to prevent short circuits.

Passengers may still bring electronic devices such as watches, calculators, cameras, mobile phones, laptops, and camcorders onboard.

Devices using lithium or lithium-ion batteries with a capacity exceeding 100Wh but not more than 160Wh may also be allowed for personal use, subject to approval by the airline.

AirAsia Philippines reiterated that e-cigarettes and self-balancing battery-powered devices are strictly prohibited in checked baggage.

The airline cited a previous incident involving a fire on a Hong Kong-bound foreign flight from Busan last year, where flames were reported from an overhead compartment, raising concerns that a power bank or electronic device may have triggered the incident.
