MANILA — Actor Dennis Padilla and his former stepdaughter Dani Barretto were involved in another heated online exchange after conflicting claims resurfaced regarding alleged abuse within the household of Padilla and his ex-wife Marjorie Barretto.

In a report, it said the issue stemmed from Dani’s appearance on Kylie Verzosa’s “Almost Honest” podcast, where she spoke about growing up in an environment where she and her siblings allegedly heard their mother being subjected to yelling and screaming. A clip of the interview was posted online.

Without naming individuals, Dani praised her mother for leaving the relationship and encouraged others to leave abusive or harmful situations.

“You can leave, you are allowed to leave situations lalo na if you’re abused, being hurt, or not valued,” Dani said. “Puwede, hindi ka trapped… There is a freedom that comes with it.”

In a now-deleted online comment, Padilla responded, saying he would address Dani’s statements point by point. He claimed he also experienced abuse during the relationship and said he felt “liberated” after it ended.

“I felt liberated nung nakawala ako sa relationship na sinasabi mo,” Padilla said. “Huwag masyadong mayabang. Wala kang alam. Half lang alam mo.”

Dani later responded, confirming that she was referring to Padilla in her podcast remarks. She alleged that she personally witnessed incidents of shouting directed at her mother and household staff.

“This is what you always do, use social media to ‘defend’ yourself and spread more lies and gaslight your children and now me,” Dani said. “You keep pushing this narrative na kinawawa ka. Weren’t you the abusive one?”

She also claimed Padilla would call his children late at night while intoxicated and shout at them, adding that strained relationships with his children were due to repeated conflicts.

“All your kids know who you are. That’s why most of them have no communication with you — because you burned bridges with each of them,” Dani said. “Pero sa kuwento mo, sila ang mali at ikaw pa rin ang kawawa. Make it make sense.”

Padilla has children with Marjorie Barretto, namely Julia, Claudia, and Leon. Barretto also has a daughter, Erich, with former Caloocan mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri.
