PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — Senator Erwin Tulfo has facilitated the turnover of two patrol cars to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City as part of efforts to support correctional operations.
Tulfo was represented during the turnover on May 18 by his Deputy Chief of Staff Francis Tulfo, who formally handed over the vehicles to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) facility.
A known advocate for prison reforms, the senator said the provision of patrol vehicles is intended to assist BuCor in carrying out its mandate.
“Please know that our work does not end here. Whether it is through passing new laws or giving actual solutions like these transport vehicles, we are always here for you. As part of the government, it is our duty to help BuCor achieve its goals and mission,” Deputy Chief of Staff Francis Tulfo said.
In April, Tulfo also attended the groundbreaking ceremony of a new 10-hectare prison facility in Iwahig.
During that event, he raised concerns about the possible additional burden on prison personnel once the facility expands.
“It is expected that more PDLs (Persons Deprived of Liberty) will be placed here. We need to ensure that all bases are covered, including the mobility of personnel, for the safety of the communities around Iwahig and the fulfillment of BuCor’s mandate,” the lawmaker said.
