MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has recommended the cancellation of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s firearm license following an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a media report, it said that in a briefing, Civil Security Group–Firearms and Explosives Office (CSG-FEO) legal officer Police Lieutenant Colonel Domer Tadeo said the Firearms License Revocation and Restoration Board (FLRRB) has already issued the recommendation.

“The FEO board recommends to cancel,” Tadeo said.

The recommendation will still require approval from FEO chief Police Brigadier General Jose Manalad Jr. before it is implemented.

Tadeo said the FEO had already launched a motu proprio investigation last week, even before any formal request was received from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

He added that the board identified grounds for cancellation under Republic Act 10591, citing a pending criminal case carrying a penalty of more than two years.

If approved, the revocation may also lead to the confiscation of firearms registered under the senator.

The PNP official declined to disclose how many firearms are registered under Dela Rosa, citing the Data Privacy Act.

Tadeo said the senator would be formally notified and may file a motion for reconsideration or voluntarily surrender his firearms.

He warned that failure to surrender firearms after cancellation could prompt police action through legal procedures.
