MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation–Human Trafficking Division (NBI-HTRAD) arrested an individual in an entrapment operation in Santa Cruz, Manila for alleged sextortion and related offenses.

In a press release, the NBI said the suspect faces possible charges for violations of Republic Act No. 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, Republic Act No. 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, as amended, Grave Threats and Grave Coercion, and Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the suspect’s former girlfriend, who alleged that he threatened to release intimate videos of her to her family and friends unless she agreed to continue communicating with him and engage in sexual intercourse.

According to the NBI, the victim also said the suspect instructed her to meet him on June 2, 2026, and promised to delete the sensitive videos from his cellphone after she complied with his demands.

Acting on the complaint, operatives of the NBI-HTRAD conducted an entrapment operation at a hotel in Santa Cruz, Manila, which led to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of relevant evidence.

The suspect has been subjected to inquest proceedings for violations of the cited laws.

The NBI reiterated its commitment to addressing online sexual abuse and technology-facilitated gender-based violence, urging the public to report similar incidents to authorities.
