MANILA — Actor Dennis Padilla said he will respect the decision of his daughter Claudia Barretto to remove the Baldivia surname from her legal name.
In a report, it said that Baldivia is the actor’s real surname. Claudia is one of his children with ex-wife Marjorie Barretto, alongside actress Julia Barretto and Leon. He also has four other children from two other relationships.
On June 8, Dennis posted on Instagram a portion of a court document showing that Claudia had filed a petition to change her name from Claudia Isabelle Barretto Baldivia to Claudia Isabelle.
The document was filed before Regional Trial Court Branch 302 in Quezon City, with the Office of the Solicitor General, the Local Civil Registrars of Quezon City and Muntinlupa, and the Philippine Statistics Authority named as respondents.
“Kung ang lungkot ko ay kasiyahan mo anak… Hindi magbabago ang pagmamahal ko sa’yo Claudia,” Dennis wrote in text placed over the document image. In the caption, he added, “Love you Claui… I respect your decision… Malungkot lang talaga.”
In a separate post hours later, Dennis shared an old photo of him with Claudia and Julia during their childhood, again attaching the Baldivia surname to both daughters in text placed on the image.
“With or without the family name, same love, same hope,” he wrote.
“If my sadness will bring joy to you my children… My heart is full…” he added in the caption of the later post, repeating the statement in a comment. Comment sections on both posts were limited to select users.
Julia Barretto previously attempted to legally change her name a decade ago but did not pursue it. She continues to use Julia Francesca Barretto Baldivia in official documents.
Dennis and Marjorie were married for 12 years before separating in 2007 and having their marriage annulled two years later. Since then, Dennis’ relationship with his children, including Marjorie’s eldest daughter Dani, has remained strained. Dani is the daughter of Marjorie with actor Kier Legaspi.
