MANILA — Construction activity in the country reached 13,677 in April, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), based on preliminary data released on Friday.

The agency said the recorded construction projects were based on approved building permits covering a total floor area of 2.76 million square meters, with an overall value of PHP47.42 billion.

“This excludes alteration and repair, other non-residential such as facade, helipad, niche, water tank, etc., and other constructions, which include demolition, street furniture, landscaping, and signboards, since there is no reported floor area for these types of constructions,” the PSA said.

Residential structures made up the bulk of construction activity during the period, with 8,630 projects or 63.1 percent of the total. Most of these were single-detached houses.

Non-residential developments followed with 2,973 projects, the majority of which were commercial buildings.

The PSA also reported that additions to existing structures accounted for 3.7 percent of total construction activity. Alteration and repair works represented 7.7 percent, while other types of construction made up 3.8 percent.

In terms of cost, the average construction value in April stood at PHP15,497.47 per square meter, marking a 48.5 percent increase compared with the PHP10,437.43 per square meter recorded in April 2025.

Among construction categories, non-residential projects posted the highest average cost at PHP16,673.81 per square meter, followed by residential buildings at PHP14,527.58 per square meter, and additions at PHP12,550.38 per square meter.
