MANILA — Filipino drag performer M1ss Jade So is set to represent the Philippines in the inaugural season of “Drag Race Down Under vs. the World,” a new international spin-off of the “Drag Race” franchise.
In a media report, it said that the series will feature contestants from the Australian edition of the show competing against queens from various international “Drag Race” franchises.
The upcoming competition marks the third installment of the franchise’s “vs. the World” format, following editions held in the United Kingdom and Canada.
M1ss Jade So previously placed joint third in the second season of “Drag Race Philippines.” Alongside fellow finalists Bernie and Captivating Katkat, she became one of the first transgender women to compete on the Philippine edition and advance to the finals. Katkat eventually won the season.
“With her commanding presence as a ‘body’ queen, and a fierce advocate of her ‘doll domination’ philosophy of trans power, this self-confessed ‘power top na bratzy’ is ready to take on the whole world one queen at a time,” according to her contestant description.
She will become the first alumna from a non-inaugural season of “Drag Race Philippines” to compete in an international “Drag Race” edition, excluding the Philippines-hosted “Slaysian Royale.”
Other Filipino contestants who previously competed internationally include Marina Summers, who finished joint third in “UK vs. the World” Season 2; Eva Le Queen, who placed 10th in “Global All Stars”; and Minty Fresh, who finished ninth in “UK vs. the World” Season 3.
Representing the host franchise are Art Simone, Coco Jumbo, Flor, Vybe, and Nikita Iman, all former contestants from various seasons of “Drag Race Down Under.”
Joining M1ss Jade So in the international contingent are Raven, Nicole Paige Brooks, LaLa Ri, Estrella Xtravaganza, and Michael Marouli.
Among the competitors, Raven is considered one of the most recognizable figures in the franchise. She is known as RuPaul Charles’ makeup artist, an Emmy Award winner, a frequent guest on the flagship series, and co-host of the companion program “Fashion Photo RuView.”
The new competition will mark Raven’s first appearance as a contestant since “All Stars” Season 1 in 2012.
“Drag Race” co-host Michelle Visage will host the series alongside Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson and Lazy Susan, the winner of “Drag Race Down Under” Season 4.
