MANILA – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque encouraged micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to work with the agency as they seek to expand into international markets, citing the growing demand for Philippine-made products abroad.

Speaking during the opening of the three-day Wedding Fair at SM Aura Premier in Taguig City, Roque said the Marcos administration continues to strengthen efforts to increase exports of locally made products.

She noted that Philippine exports grew by a record 15.4 percent last year and said the momentum has continued this year, which she partly attributed to Republic Act No. 11981, or the Tatak Pinoy (Proudly Filipino) Act, aimed at strengthening local industries and supporting Filipino businesses.

“What does this rise in export tell us? That the products are now ready for the global space. So, for any of you here that want to explore the export market, the DTI is here to assist you as best and as aggressive as we can. That’s why I told them to stand up so that you can go to them,” Roque said.

The trade chief said the government’s network of 29 trade attachés and 21 DTI overseas offices can help Filipino entrepreneurs identify opportunities and bring their products to international markets.

She added that while electronics and automotive parts continue to account for a large share of the country’s exports, agricultural products such as coconut, banana, pineapple, ube, and calamansi are emerging as key export drivers.

“So again, if you are in that industry, please feel free to coordinate with us. We will definitely make sure that we get things done. We are very proud of this and we are going to make sure that you can get your products out there as soon as possible,” she said.
