MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) reported a localized increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Quezon City but said overall infections remain low, with most patients experiencing mild illness.

In a statement, the DOH said data from the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division showed that 84 Covid-19 cases were recorded between June 11 and July 1, up from 23 cases in the previous monitoring period.

Despite the increase, the health department cautioned against interpreting the trend based solely on the reported 265-percent rise.

“Citing the percentage increase (265 percent) does not accurately reflect the small absolute number, and requires much caution in interpretation,” the DOH said.

The department said it is coordinating with the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division to investigate the cases, which appear to be confined to specific communities or healthcare facilities.

Initial findings indicate that the close proximity of individuals in these settings may have contributed to the increase in infections.

The DOH noted that, as of July 4, Quezon City had recorded a total of 125 Covid-19 cases this year, representing a 68-percent decline from the 389 cases reported during the same period in 2025.

Health officials also said most of the recent infections have been mild.

Of the reported cases, 17 patients, or 14 percent, required hospitalization, while 108, or 86 percent, were treated as outpatients. About 70 percent of the patients have already recovered.

Nationwide, the DOH said Covid-19 infections continue to decline, with 719 cumulative cases recorded as of June 20, compared with 3,579 cases during the same period last year.

The health department reminded the public to continue practicing proper hand hygiene and other preventive measures, particularly during the rainy season when water-borne diseases, influenza-like illnesses, leptospirosis, and dengue cases also tend to increase.
