MANILA – State-run LANDBANK reminded the public to remain vigilant against financial scams as digital banking continues to expand, urging clients to protect their accounts from fraud through the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA).

The bank said the law, implemented in line with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas regulations, strengthens safeguards against financial scams, including phishing, smishing, money muling, and other schemes that use malicious links to obtain one-time passwords (OTPs), personal identification numbers (PINs), and other sensitive account information.

Under AFASA, banks are authorized to temporarily hold accounts suspected of being linked to fraudulent activities as an immediate measure to protect potential victims.

LANDBANK also encouraged the public to observe the “STOP, CHECK, REPORT, and PROTECT” approach to reduce the risk of falling victim to scams.

The bank advised clients to pause before responding to suspicious messages, verify the authenticity of senders and information received, report suspected scams through official channels, and ensure their accounts remain secure.
