MANILA – The last three Filipino crew members of the Liberia-flagged MV Epaminondas arrived in the Philippines on Monday, completing the repatriation of all 10 Filipinos who were aboard the vessel following a security incident in the Strait of Hormuz nearly three months ago.

In a social media post, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said the three seafarers arrived aboard a Qatar Airways flight that landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City.

“Their safe return was made possible through the close coordination of the shipowner, the agency, and the DMW,” the agency said.

The returning seafarers were welcomed by their families, officials from the DMW, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), and representatives of their licensed manning agency.

According to the DMW, the three immediately received financial and medical assistance from the DMW and OWWA upon arrival, while their manning agency provided temporary hotel accommodation.

“They will also undergo further medical and psychosocial assessments to help support their recovery, well-being, and reintegration after their difficult experience,” the DMW said.

The department said the three were the last Filipino crew members to receive clearance from Iranian military authorities to disembark from the vessel. They have since been replaced by crew members from Russia, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine.

The MV Epaminondas figured in a security incident on April 22 while attempting to leave the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz.

The first seven Filipino crew members of the vessel had already returned to the Philippines in three separate batches in June.
