MANILA— A low-pressure area (LPA) embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across Metro Manila, the Visayas, Mindanao, and parts of Luzon on Saturday, Oct. 10, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA located the LPA 410 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, at 3 a.m.

The weather bureau warned of possible flash floods and landslides in areas affected by moderate to occasionally heavy rains, including the Bicol Region, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA.

Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan are also expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Similar weather conditions may affect Metro Manila and other areas under the influence of the LPA and ITCZ.

Batanes, meanwhile, is forecast to have cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeasterly windflow, with no significant impact expected.

The rest of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods or landslides.

Moderate to strong winds from the northeast to east are expected over Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon, with coastal waters ranging from moderate to rough at 1.5 to 2.8 meters.

The rest of Luzon may experience light to moderate winds from the northeast to north, with slight to moderate coastal waters of 0.6 to 2.1 meters. The Visayas is forecast to have light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest, while Mindanao may experience winds from the northwest to southwest. Coastal waters in both regions are expected to range from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

Separately, Typhoon Koguma (2629) was located 3,200 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 a.m.

The typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 190 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 25 kph.

PAGASA recorded a minimum temperature of 24.2 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 33.5 degrees Celsius during the 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Friday.

In Metro Manila, sunrise was forecast at 5:47 a.m. and sunset at 5:40 p.m. Saturday.
