MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked or suspended the driver’s licenses of 1,108 motorists since October last year as part of its intensified campaign against unsafe and irresponsible driving.

In a statement on Monday, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the figure includes 618 revoked licenses and 490 suspended licenses since he assumed office in October.

“Ipinakikita nito ang patuloy na mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng LTO ng mga umiiral na batas at regulasyon ng ahensya (This shows that the LTO continues to strictly enforce road laws and regulations),” Lacanilao said.

Among the 618 revoked licenses, eight were revoked for one year, 476 for two years, 32 for four years, and 102 were permanently revoked following investigations conducted by the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division.

Meanwhile, the 490 suspended licenses consist of 37 one-month suspensions, 336 three-month suspensions, 11 six-month suspensions, one seven-month suspension, and 105 one-year suspensions.

The LTO also recorded 184 license revocations and 94 suspensions from June 11 to July 4 alone.

Lacanilao said the agency’s campaign is aimed not only at penalizing violators but also at encouraging safer driving behavior.

“Ang layunin natin ay hindi lamang magpataw ng parusa kundi higit sa lahat ay mapanatili ang disiplina sa lansangan at maprotektahan ang buhay ng bawat gumagamit ng ating mga kalsada (Our goal is not only to implement penalties but also to maintain discipline on the road and protect every road user),” he said.

He said the LTO would continue to strengthen its monitoring and investigation of road traffic violations.

“Patuloy nating pairalin ang responsableng pagmamaneho at ang mahigpit na pagsunod sa batas para sa kaligtasan ng lahat (We should continue to uphold responsible driving and strict adherence to the rule of law for everyone’s safety),” Lacanilao said.
