MANILA – Health Secretary Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa has submitted his courtesy resignation to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., citing health concerns following a recent knee replacement surgery.
Health Undersecretary Albert Domingo confirmed over the weekend that Herbosa underwent the procedure.
In a message to hospital officials, Herbosa said his recovery prompted him to step down from his post.
“Today, I tendered my courtesy resignation as SOH (Secretary of Health) to PBBM. My operation has made me realize that I also need to take care of myself,” Herbosa said.
Malacañang confirmed that President Marcos has accepted Herbosa’s resignation.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced the President’s decision during a media briefing.
Herbosa, who was appointed by Marcos in 2023 to lead the Department of Health, succeeding then officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire, said he expects to undergo extensive rehabilitation for the next three to four months following his surgery.
