MANILA— Financial forensic analyst Alexander Cabrera said he did not examine documents from Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, as the records were unavailable during his analysis of their finances amid allegations of unexplained wealth.
During Monday’s impeachment proceedings, defense lawyer Kristine Ferrer asked Cabrera whether he had examined or used any documents provided by Duterte and Carpio.
“Hinanap po namin dun sa impeachment proceedings sa answer—,” Cabrera replied before Ferrer interrupted him and asked him to answer the question directly.
“Wala po kasi. ‘Yan po ‘yung sagot. Wala po kasi dun sa reply na answer po niya sa House tsaka po sa Senate, wala po kasi,” Cabrera said.
When Ferrer pressed him to confirm that he had not used documents from the respondents, Cabrera replied, “Had there been, I would have used po.”
In a separate exchange, Ferrer also questioned Cabrera about his use of documents and information from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) that were allegedly furnished to him without the permission of the impeachment court.
Ferrer warned Cabrera that violations of the laws she cited could carry imprisonment and fines, although she said the warning was not intended to scare him.
“I’m not scared naman po,” Cabrera responded.
Asked whether he was concerned that receiving the AMLC documents without the court’s permission could violate the cited laws, Cabrera said he believed accepting them was permissible because the records had already been discussed during a previous hearing of the House Committee on Justice.
“Dahil na-take up na po sa House, at pinagtalunan na po sa House, kaya po ang nasa isip ko ay okay lang po ion na tanggapin ko,” Cabrera said.
