MANILA – The Sandiganbayan has directed police authorities to bring detained Sen. Rodante Marcoleta to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Tuesday for a medical examination as part of proceedings in his plunder case.

In an order issued Monday, the anti-graft court’s Third Division instructed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and officers of the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) to transport Marcoleta to PGH at 12 p.m.

The court also ordered the attending doctors to appear before the Sandiganbayan at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday to present the findings of the medical examination.

After the procedure, the CIDG and PNPGH were directed to return Marcoleta to the PNP General Hospital and produce him before the court on Wednesday. The police were likewise ordered to submit a compliance report within three days.

Meanwhile, the PNPGH said Monday that Marcoleta would be fit to travel after completing his course of antibiotics for mild pneumonia.

PNPGH Internal Medicine chief Police Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani said Marcoleta is expected to finish taking the prescribed antibiotics on Wednesday, July 15.

Marcoleta is being held over a P75-million plunder case involving alleged undeclared campaign donations.

Two days after his arrest, doctors at the PNPGH diagnosed him with mild pneumonia and degenerative disc disease.

Bayani said Marcoleta is now in stable condition, with his blood pressure under control at 130/90.

She added, however, that while Marcoleta has been declared fit to travel, the hospital could not yet determine the exact date and time of his transfer to a detention facility.

According to Bayani, the PNPGH has already submitted an updated medical report on Marcoleta’s condition to the Sandiganbayan.
