MANILA – The southwest monsoon will continue to affect Northern and Central Luzon on Saturday, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains and thunderstorms to several areas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac and Pampanga are expected to experience cloudy conditions with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, the rest of Cagayan Valley and the rest of Central Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms in these areas may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

The rest of the country will likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Saudel (2618) and a tropical depression were outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of 3 a.m. Saturday.

Saudel was located 2,710 kilometers east of Northern Luzon at 17.3°N, 147.3°E, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It was moving northwestward at 25 kph.

The tropical depression was located 1,195 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao at 9.8°N, 136.4°E. It had maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 55 kph and was moving westward at 10 kph.

The northern and western sections of Luzon will experience moderate to strong southwest winds, with coastal waters expected to be moderate to rough at 1.5 to 3.4 meters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds coming from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

In Metro Manila, sunrise is at 5:43 a.m. and sunset at 6:15 p.m. Saturday. The moon is expected to rise at 1:53 p.m. and set at 12:20 a.m., with 72% illumination.
