MANILA – More than 211,000 LANDBANK and Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank) accounts have been opened without requiring customers to present a physical government-issued ID, just a month after the rollout of the banks’ National ID-enabled account-opening service.
The milestone was highlighted on Aug. 14 during the ceremonial signing of the National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS) Subscription Contract at the LANDBANK Plaza in Malate, Manila.
The agreement among LANDBANK, OFBank, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) formalizes the adoption of NIDAS as the primary proof of identity across the banks’ digital onboarding platforms.
The event was led by LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz, OFBank President and CEO Leila C. Martin, PSA Assistant Secretary Rosalinda P. Bautista, and DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel R. Aguda.
Launched in July, the service allows customers to open accounts through the LANDBANK and OFBank Mobile Banking App or digital onboarding website using real-time identity verification powered by the PSA. The system eliminates the need to present or upload physical government-issued identification documents.
“Together with OFBank, PSA, and DICT, we are leveraging technology to make banking accessible to every Filipino. Enabling real-time National ID verification marks a major milestone in digital onboarding, reinforcing LANDBANK’s leadership in driving financial inclusion,” Ortiz said.
For Filipinos living overseas, the service is also available through OFBank’s all-digital banking platform.
“As the country’s first branchless, digital-only bank, OFBank was established to serve Filipinos overseas and their families wherever they are in the world. Through secure and reliable identity verification powered by the National ID System, we can now make account opening simpler, faster, and more convenient, regardless of distance,” Martin said.
Bautista said secure identity authentication is crucial to the country’s digital transformation and the expansion of secure online transactions.
“As we continue to build the country’s digital economy, trusted identity authentication will remain at the heart of secure digital transactions. This achievement is a testament to what we can accomplish when institutions come together with a shared purpose,” she said.
LANDBANK and OFBank said the use of NIDAS supports the government’s digital transformation and financial inclusion efforts by making secure banking services more accessible to Filipinos both in the Philippines and abroad.
