MANILA – The southwest monsoon will continue to affect Northern and Central Luzon on Monday, bringing occasional rains, scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms across several areas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Batanes will experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon, with moderate to heavy rains potentially triggering flash floods or landslides.

Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, the rest of Cagayan Valley, Cavite, Batangas and Rizal will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, three tropical cyclones were outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of 3 a.m. Monday.

Typhoon Saudel (2618) was located 1,660 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at 23.3°N, 137.7°E. It had maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph.

Saudel was moving west-northwestward at 30 kph.

A tropical depression was located 1,330 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon at 14.1°N, 136.6°E. It had maximum sustained winds of 55 kph, gustiness of up to 70 kph and was moving north-northeastward at 10 kph.

Another tropical depression, Gaenari (2620), formerly “Neneng,” was located 520 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, at 24.9°N, 119.4°E.

Gaenari had maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It was moving west-southwestward at 15 kph.

The northern and western sections of Luzon will experience moderate to strong southwest winds, with coastal waters expected to be moderate to rough at 1.5 to 3.4 meters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

In Metro Manila, sunrise is at 5:43 a.m. and sunset at 6:14 p.m. Monday. The moon will rise at 3:32 p.m. and set at 2:04 a.m., with 87% illumination.
