MANILA—The House of Representatives on Friday wrapped up plenary deliberations on the proposed 2027 budgets of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), covering funding for justice services and Metro Manila programs on traffic, waste management and flood mitigation.

The DOJ and its attached agencies are seeking P43.305 billion in new appropriations for 2027, while the MMDA has a proposed P6.56-billion allocation for the fiscal year.

Quezon Rep. Keith Micah “Atty. Mike” Tan, who sponsored the DOJ budget, said the proposed funds would provide the department and its attached agencies with the resources needed to perform their respective mandates.

“With its many responsibilities, the proposed budget is essential in ensuring that the DOJ and its attached agencies have the personnel, facilities, technology and operational resources they need in order to effectively fulfill their respective mandates,” Tan said.

The DOJ allocation will support the investigation and prosecution of crimes, correctional services, legal assistance, immigration enforcement and other justice-related functions.

It will also finance efforts to improve case management and prosecution, modernize systems, strengthen correctional and rehabilitation programs, expand access to legal assistance, and address law enforcement and border security concerns.

The Office of the Secretary will receive the biggest share at P13.93 billion, followed by the Bureau of Corrections with P11.93 billion.

The proposed allocations for the other attached agencies are:

• Public Attorney’s Office — P7.10 billion
• Land Registration Authority — P3.28 billion
• National Bureau of Investigation — P3.03 billion
• Bureau of Immigration — P2.98 billion
• Office of the Solicitor General — P2.14 billion
• Parole and Probation Administration — P1.25 billion
• Philippine Commission on Good Government — P338.67 million
• Office of the Government Corporate Counsel — P310.17 million
• Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution — P138.75 million

Including automatic appropriations, the DOJ and its attached agencies have a total proposed budget of P46.435 billion for 2027.

Meanwhile, the House also concluded interpellation on the MMDA’s proposed P6.56-billion budget.

The allocation will support the agency’s programs on solid waste management, traffic and transport management, flood mitigation and sewerage management, the Pasig River Ferry Service, and roadside management.

These programs provide services across Metro Manila, according to the House.

Makati City Rep. Monique Yazmin Maria Lagdameo and Mandaluyong City Rep. Alexandria “Queenie” Gonzales served as budget sponsors during the MMDA deliberations.
