MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) subpoenaed a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) official and three construction company officials as part of its probe into alleged irregularities in flood control projects in Davao City.

Among those subpoenaed was Davao DPWH Regional Director Juby Cordon, along with officials of three construction firms linked to the projects in the district of Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte.

The NBI is investigating 100 flood control projects in Davao City after identifying “red flags” in 47 of them.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the 47 flagged projects have a combined value of about PHP1.9 billion and were reportedly awarded to a single contractor.

According to the bureau, documents gathered during the investigation indicated possible irregularities involving the projects, including suspected ghost and substandard flood control structures.

The NBI earlier said it would subpoena 51 individuals connected to three construction companies involved in the projects, including Genesis88 Construction.

The subpoenas form part of the bureau’s ongoing investigation into the alleged anomalies. (PNA)
