MANILA — House prosecutors said that corporate records presented before the Senate impeachment court have yet to account for the increase in Vice President Sara Z. Duterte’s declared net worth, describing a “striking imbalance” between her wealth and the financial records of businesses linked to her and her husband.

House prosecution spokesperson Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) records examined by prosecutors raised further questions about the sources of Duterte’s declared wealth.

“Instead of clarifying, it creates more questions. And it creates, I think, more problem for the respondent to really explain to the public kung bakit ganoon, may imbalance, may striking imbalance between her net worth and the supposed lawful and legal income that she gets,” Alonto Adiong said at a post-trial press briefing Monday.

Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, declared a combined net worth of about P98.66 million in their 2025 Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), up from about P71.66 million in 2022.

Alonto Adiong said prosecutors initially considered Duterte’s declared businesses as possible legitimate sources of additional income.

“Maybe naman talaga may mga legitimate company siya. Pero nung tinignan natin ’yung mga companies niya ngayon, mismo ang SEC ang nagsabi, nalulugi naman. So paano mo ngayon balansehin?” he said.

During the proceedings, SEC Company Registration and Monitoring Department Director Gerardo Del Rosario testified on corporate filings involving the companies examined by the prosecution.

Some of the companies had no audited financial statements (AFS) available in the records presented to the impeachment court. Del Rosario also testified that filings available for several other companies contained no information indicating declarations of dividends.

House prosecution team adviser and spokesperson Ace Barbers described the SEC testimony as another “piece of the puzzle” in the prosecution’s presentation concerning Duterte’s alleged unexplained wealth.

“Kaya kailangan mabuo muna itong puzzle na ito para makita natin ’yung kabuuang larawan o picture nitong allegation na ito dito sa unexplained wealth,” Barbers said.

Barbers said the corporate records presented so far have not reconciled with Duterte’s declared net worth, adding that more witnesses and documents would be presented.

“So marami pang mga witnesses and documentary evidence na ipi-presenta para magkaroon ng mas malinaw na litrato o picture itong unexplained wealth,” Barbers said.

He emphasized that it would ultimately be up to the senator-judges to determine whether the evidence establishes unexplained wealth.

“It is not the prosecution who will decide whether the evidence that we presented are sufficient to declare that there was indeed unexplained wealth,” he said.

“We leave that up to the senator-judges to decide, base sa ebidensya na aming iniharap at ilalatag dito sa trial na ito.”

The corporate records are part of the House prosecution’s evidence under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, which involves allegations of unexplained wealth against Duterte.
