
MANILA— The trough of Super Typhoon Choi-Wan is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains and thunderstorms over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday.
In its 24-hour public weather forecast issued at 4 a.m. on October 5, PAGASA said the trough of Choi-Wan is affecting Mindanao, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Leyte and Southern Leyte.
These areas may experience moderate to at times heavy rains, which could trigger flash floods or landslides.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides.
As of 3 a.m., Super Typhoon Choi-Wan was outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, located 2,605 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
The tropical cyclone had maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour near its center and gustiness of up to 240 kilometers per hour. It was moving northward at 20 kilometers per hour.
For wind and coastal conditions, Luzon will experience light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest, with coastal waters expected to be slight to moderate at 0.6 to 1.2 meters.
The Visayas and Mindanao will also experience light to moderate winds, generally from the west to southwest, with coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters.
Metro Manila recorded a minimum temperature of 24.8°C at 5 a.m. and a maximum of 33.6°C at 3 p.m. during the 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Relative humidity ranged from 59% at 3 p.m. to 94% at 5 a.m.
In Metro Manila, sunrise is expected at 5:46 a.m. Monday and sunset at 5:43 p.m. Moonrise is at 12:33 a.m., while moonset is at 1:51 p.m., with the moon 29% illuminated.
