MANILA— Security Bank confirmed Wednesday that Cale88 Foods Corp., a company previously linked to Vice President Sara Duterte’s husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, maintained two peso accounts with the bank, with combined inflows of more than P40 million in 2024.
Security Bank Branch Banking Group head Leslie Cham told the Senate impeachment court that Cale88 opened the two accounts in August 2024 and October 2025. Both accounts were closed in July 2026.
Cham said the ending balances of the two Cale88 accounts in 2025 were P332,530.95 and P21,164.27.
He also confirmed to Senator-judge Raffy Tulfo that Cale88’s total inflows in 2024 reached P40,138,766.28, while its outflows totaled P40,001,101.79.
For 2025, Cham said the company recorded total inflows of P6,265,915.66.
Cale88 had previously been identified as a company in which Carpio had an interest. Anti-Money Laundering Council records showed that the company received remittances from China.
During questioning by prosecution counsel Atty. James Bryan Ibrahim Alih, Cham declined to confirm whether Cale88 maintained a foreign currency account with Security Bank, saying he was not in a position to provide the information.
Senator-judge and Senate President Win Gatchalian also asked Cham about reports that Security Bank had filed multiple suspicious transaction reports (STRs) involving Cale88.
Cham said he could not confirm whether STRs had been filed, citing restrictions under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
He said the bank’s legal counsel had advised him that such information could not be disclosed because of confidentiality provisions under the law.
Senator-judge and Presiding Officer Francis Escudero confirmed that Cham was covered by the confidentiality rule.
Cham also testified that Duterte does not maintain an account with Security Bank, while Carpio has two accounts with the bank, only one of which remains active.
He was also asked to testify on the ending balances of Carpio’s Security Bank account from 2022 to 2025.
Meanwhile, Cham confirmed that GenCorp Industries Inc. has eight peso accounts with Security Bank. He said the first was opened in 2020 and that all eight accounts remain active.
The Senate impeachment court resumed proceedings Wednesday, October 7, with the House prosecution panel continuing its presentation of officials from banks and financial institutions over allegations of unexplained wealth under Article 2 of the impeachment complaint against Duterte.
Other institutions expected to provide witnesses include Asia United Bank, Philippine Savings Bank, Metrobank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Philippine National Bank, BDO Unibank, and FWD Life Insurance.
The witnesses are expected to testify on financial and bank records involving Duterte and Carpio.
The proceedings followed Tuesday’s hearing, when LandBank representatives testified on accounts linked to Duterte and Carpio. The court also examined discrepancies between the couple’s declared net worth and their bank transactions.
The impeachment trial is on its 35th day.
