MANILA— The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is encouraging eligible Filipinos to register early as it prepares to reopen voter registration on Tuesday, Nov. 10, for the 2028 national and local elections.

Registration will run until June 30, 2027, giving prospective voters several months to complete the process, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said Sunday.

Garcia urged the public not to wait until the deadline approaches before registering.

“Kaya nating ine-engganyo ang ating mga kababayan na magpa-rehistro nang mas maaga kaysa ‘yung late na o kung isang taon na naman sila magpaparehistro,” Garcia told Super Radyo dzBB.

He explained that the early opening of registration for the 2028 polls was prompted by the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), originally scheduled for Nov. 2, 2026.

The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the law extending the terms of barangay and SK officials from four to five years and setting the next BSKE for November 2028.

Around 74 million registered voters are expected to participate in the 2028 national and local elections.
