MANILA, Philippines – A third impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte is being prepared by a religious group, House Secretary-General Reginald Velasco said Monday.
“Religious group daw po. We are waiting. Thanks,” Velasco said in a message to reporters.
No further details however were provided as to the identity of the religious group and reason for their filing.
According to Velasco, the first two impeachment complaints have not been endorsed to the Senate yet because they are still awaiting the comments of their legal department before submission to the Office of the House Speaker.
Senate President Chiz Escudero had earlier said that the upper chamber will not act on anything unless a formal case has been endorsed to them.
He also said he will not encourage his fellow senators to prepare or study the rules on impeachment so as not to taint the institution of being presumptuous.
While promising that the Senate will act on any case presented to it, Escudero expressed concerns about the time left to process the complaints considering the senators’ pending legislative work and the nearing holiday break.
The first two impeachment complaints against Duterte were endorsed by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña while the other is backed by Makabayan bloc lawmakers.
