QUEZON CITY — The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation) has strengthened its depositor protection awareness campaign through a community-based financial literacy session in Barangay Holy Spirit on March 31, 2026.

The initiative formed part of PDIC’s “Bank Deposit Mo, Mas Protektado” public awareness campaign and “Be a Wise Saver” financial literacy program, aimed at encouraging residents to save in banks and understand deposit insurance protection.

A total of 48 participants, including tricycle drivers, sari-sari store owners, barangay staff, and officials, attended the session in one of Quezon City’s most densely populated communities.

PDIC Corporate Affairs Group Vice President Jose G. Villaret Jr. led the discussion, highlighting the role of community workers such as tricycle drivers and small store owners in spreading financial awareness.

He also explained the PDIC’s mandate, the importance of deposit insurance, and how insurance coverage for bank deposits is computed.

The session followed the rollout of out-of-home (OOH) campaign materials in the barangay earlier this year, which included signage placed in sari-sari stores and tricycle units.

Messages from the campaign included: “Ngayon barya lang po sa umaga. Bukas, malaking ipon na!” and “Malaki man o maliit ang kita, protektado ka,” promoting the habit of saving money in banks.

Barangay Holy Spirit Chairperson Estrella Valmocina expressed support for the program, encouraging residents to develop saving habits and deposit money in banks for emergency needs.

“Kapag hawak mo lang ang pera mo, gagastusin mo lang lahat. Kahit papano magtabi kayo sa bangko para may madudukot pag nagka-emergency. Lalo at alam na natin, magsara man ang bangko, protektado ang pera natin,” she said.

The PDIC said the barangay-level engagement is part of a broader nationwide campaign that also includes billboards, public transportation materials, and digital displays in airports and seaports, alongside TV and radio advertisements aimed at building public confidence in the banking system.
