MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it remains on heightened alert and in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies amid reports that the International Criminal Court (ICC) may issue additional arrest warrants.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force continues to operate within due process and established legal frameworks as it monitors developments involving possible international warrants.
“We remain fully committed to our mandate of upholding the rule of law, including the enforcement of any legal orders. As officers of the law, this is our sworn duty,” Nartatez said in a statement.
The assurance came as the PNP continues to coordinate with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and other government agencies in anticipation of possible joint operations linked to international legal actions.
The Department of Justice has ordered the PNP and NBI to enforce an International Criminal Court warrant against Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa after the Supreme Court denied his request for a temporary restraining order.
The ICC has ordered Dela Rosa’s arrest for crimes against humanity in connection with the previous administration’s war on drugs, which left thousands of suspects dead, including minors.
Malacañang earlier said it expects any forthcoming ICC warrants to be enforced promptly.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the government wants swift implementation of such orders.
Nartatez said the PNP will act only on orders issued by proper authorities and in accordance with existing protocols.
“We will only act upon orders issued by proper authorities, ensuring that they are in accordance with existing rules and protocols,” he said.
He added that the police force remains professional and disciplined in carrying out its mandate under standard operating procedures.
