NEW YORK — Pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce are reportedly preparing for their wedding in New York this week, with celebrations expected to take place at Madison Square Garden.
While neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly confirmed the event, multiple U.S. media reports said wedding-related activities are scheduled to begin Thursday evening with an exclusive dinner attended by about 100 guests.
The wedding ceremony is reportedly set for Friday and is expected to draw around 1,000 guests, including several of Swift’s close friends and Kelce’s teammates from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Reports said guests have signed confidentiality agreements and will not be allowed to use their phones during the ceremony, which is expected to begin in the afternoon and continue into the evening with a reception.
Celebrity outlet TMZ reported that the venue’s decorations will include a replica castle built inside Madison Square Garden.
Preparations appeared to be underway Wednesday as trucks and crews were seen unloading equipment outside the arena.
Alicia Griffith, 51, who was visiting New York from South Carolina with her two daughters, said she believed the wedding was taking place at the venue.
“This is fascinating!,” Griffith said.
She added that she encouraged one of her daughters to take photos of the activity outside the arena.
“She’s like, ‘But it may not be her wedding.’ I’m like, but it may be. I think it is,” she added.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority head Janno Lieber said he had no direct knowledge of the reported wedding but encouraged attendees to use public transportation.
“I hope and expect that some of the celebrities, if there are celebrities coming to this alleged event, will take full advantage of our service, rather than spending a lot of time stuck in traffic somewhere in Midtown,” Lieber said.
Speculation surrounding the couple’s wedding has intensified in recent weeks despite the absence of an official announcement.
Media reports noted increased activity around Madison Square Garden, including the presence of trucks and forklifts, while The New York Times reported additional police deployment and planned street closures beginning Thursday.
Reports also suggested that both Swift and Kelce are already in New York. Swift’s private jet reportedly arrived in the area on Tuesday, while Kelce was photographed jogging in Manhattan.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani also fueled speculation by referencing an unspecified wedding at Madison Square Garden in a social media video warning residents about an ongoing heat wave.
“We’re ready but we want to make sure that you are, too. Especially if you’re celebrating the World Cup, or the 4th of July, or renting out MSG to get married. Hypothetically,” he says with a smirk.
Madison Square Garden, known primarily as a sports and entertainment venue, has hosted at least one high-profile wedding in the past. Musician Sly Stone married actress Kathy Silva there in June 1974 during a concert by Sly and the Family Stone.
The reported wedding comes as New York prepares for Fourth of July celebrations and World Cup events scheduled later in the week.
Swift, a 14-time Grammy Award winner, recently released the album “The Life of a Showgirl,” was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and contributed a song to the soundtrack of “Toy Story 5.”
Kelce is set to return for a 14th season in the National Football League after winning three Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs.
