MANILA— The trough of Typhoon Choi-Wan is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains and thunderstorms over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA said the weather disturbance will affect Mindanao, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Leyte and Southern Leyte, where moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides.
As of 3 a.m. Saturday, Typhoon Choi-Wan was located 2,430 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
The typhoon was moving northward at 10 kph.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.
For wind and coastal conditions, Luzon and the Visayas will experience light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate at 0.6 to 1.2 meters.
Mindanao will have light to moderate winds coming from the west to southwest, with coastal waters also expected to be slight to moderate at 0.6 to 1.2 meters.
In Metro Manila, temperatures during the 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Friday ranged from 24.5°C to 32.1°C, while relative humidity ranged from 62% to 94%.
