MANILA — The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring rains over parts of Luzon and Visayas on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 24-hour public weather forecast issued at 4 a.m., PAGASA said Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, and Bataan will experience monsoon rains, with moderate to heavy and at times intense rainfall that may trigger flash floods and landslides.

Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique will have occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon.

Moderate to heavy rains in these areas may also cause flash floods and landslides.

Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Typhoon Dolphin, which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The weather bureau said moderate to at times heavy rains may also trigger flash floods and landslides in these areas.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are likewise expected over the Zamboanga Peninsula, the rest of Luzon and Visayas, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur due to the southwest monsoon.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Dolphin was located 810 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon as of 3 a.m. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph.

Dolphin was moving southwestward at 15 kph.

For coastal areas, strong to gale-force winds from the southwest are expected over extreme Northern Luzon, where seas may reach 2.6 to 4.5 meters.

The rest of Luzon will experience moderate to strong southwest winds, with coastal waters expected to be moderate to rough at 1.5 to 3.4 meters.

Visayas and Mindanao will have moderate to strong winds from the south to southwest, with coastal waters ranging from 1.2 to 3 meters.

PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas affected by moderate to heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms.
