MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday warned of possible heavy rainfall in several provinces due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) through Wednesday, August 19.

In Weather Advisory No. 62 issued at 5 a.m., PAGASA forecast 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall today in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan.

For Tuesday, the same rainfall amount is expected in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique.

The same areas are expected to receive 50 to 100 mm of rain on Wednesday, August 19.

PAGASA said rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, while significant rainfall in previous days could worsen the impacts in some locations.

Local disaster risk reduction and management offices were advised to take necessary measures to protect lives and property.

PAGASA Regional Services Divisions may issue Heavy Rainfall Warnings, Thunderstorm Advisories, and other severe weather information specific to their respective areas.

PAGASA clarified that a Heavy Rainfall Warning provides a more immediate forecast covering the next three hours and may be issued down to the municipal level, using Doppler radar to monitor rainfall intensity.

For class suspensions and other official decisions, PAGASA advised the public to refer to Heavy Rainfall Warnings issued by the respective regional offices.
