MANILA — A low pressure area (LPA) was monitored east of Batanes early Friday as the southwest monsoon continues to affect Luzon and Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was estimated at 720 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, at 3 a.m., based on all available data.

Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique may experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon.

Moderate to heavy rains in these areas could trigger flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.

The rest of Luzon and Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, also due to the southwest monsoon. Moderate to at times heavy rains may likewise cause flash floods or landslides.

Mindanao will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may bring flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, Luzon will experience moderate to strong southwest winds, with coastal waters expected to be moderate to rough at 1.5 to 3.4 meters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate at 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

In Metro Manila, sunrise is at 5:44 a.m. and sunset at 6:11 p.m. The moon is expected to rise at 6:16 p.m. and set at 5:33 a.m., with 100 percent illumination.

PAGASA recorded a minimum temperature of 26.4°C and a maximum of 31.0°C during the previous 24-hour period, with relative humidity ranging from 71 to 94 percent.
