MANILA – The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) clarified that the extension granted in connection with its 24-hour directive applies only to Reddit and not to Discord.

The CICC said Reddit was granted an extension after its officials met with the agency online within the prescribed 24-hour period and discussed specific commitments aimed at strengthening online child safety in the Philippines.

Discord, meanwhile, separately sent a letter to the CICC expressing its willingness to discuss its existing teen safety measures.

However, the agency said no extension has been granted to Discord pending direct discussions with the platform and concrete commitments on the CICC’s requirements.

The CICC said Philippine authorities are also examining Discord over the presence of extremist communities on the platform, including groups associated with Nihilistic Violent Extremism (NE), which it said have been linked to the radicalization and recruitment of minors involved in recent school shooting incidents in the country.

The agency apologized for any confusion or misunderstanding caused by the matter.
