MANILA— The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to several parts of the country on Monday, Oct. 12, with the state weather bureau warning of possible flash floods and landslides.
In its 4 a.m. public weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the ITCZ is affecting Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, while easterlies are prevailing over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon.
The northeasterly windflow, meanwhile, is affecting Extreme Northern Luzon.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Leyte and Southern Leyte due to the ITCZ.
Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet and Pangasinan will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by easterlies.
PAGASA warned that moderate to at times heavy rainfall in these areas could trigger flash floods or landslides.
Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will have cloudy skies with rains due to the northeasterly windflow, with similar risks of flooding and landslides.
The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao, as well as the remaining parts of Luzon, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, PAGASA reported a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 a.m. Monday, located 3,030 kilometers east of Central Luzon at 16.6°N, 150.5°E.
The weather disturbance has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph. It is moving slowly north-northwestward.
For coastal conditions, moderate winds from the northeast to east will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and the western section of Southern Luzon, with moderate seas reaching 1.5 to 2.5 meters.
The Visayas and the rest of Luzon will experience light to moderate winds from the east to southeast, while Mindanao will have light to moderate winds from the southwest to southeast. Coastal waters in these areas will range from slight to moderate, with wave heights of 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
In Metro Manila, sunrise is expected at 5:47 a.m. and sunset at 5:38 p.m. Monday. The moon will rise at 6:53 a.m. and set at 6:35 p.m., with 4% illumination.
