MANILA— Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson accused Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano of showing panic over the controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in infrastructure projects and illegal reclamation in Taguig, challenging his fellow senator to identify individuals he claimed had been threatened.
Lacson issued the remarks in response to Cayetano’s latest Facebook Live broadcast, in which the latter said he had received “feelers” that certain parties were being pressured to admit irregularities in Taguig.
“Spinning tales betrays panic but like guilt, it will never go away,” Lacson said in a post on his X account.
“Sen. Cayetano should name the ‘individuals’ he alleged I threatened, so I can properly address this new issue point by point,” he added.
The senator had earlier criticized Cayetano’s claims of a politically motivated demolition job, fake news and trial by publicity, describing his accusations as signs of apprehension over the emerging evidence of alleged corruption in Taguig.
“PATHETIC. Imagine someone ‘quacking’ on FB Live with accusations of politically motivated demolition job, fake news and trial by publicity and at the same time ‘quaking in his boots’ every time each piece of evidence of corruption in his turf unfolds before his eyes,” Lacson said in an X post last Sept. 3.
Lacson and his team have submitted at least 45 case studies to the Office of the Ombudsman, supported by official documents detailing alleged systemic irregularities in flood control infrastructure projects in Taguig. The submissions prompted the Ombudsman to conduct a fact-finding investigation into the allegations.
Separately, Lacson recently shared on X an unedited video from a composite inspection team documenting continued illegal reclamation activities on the Taguig side of Laguna Lake.
