MANILA – The Senate impeachment court issued a writ of summons against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte in connection with her impeachment case.

In a media report, it said that Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Officer-in-Charge Manuel Parlade led the serving of the written summons.

The Office of the Vice President confirmed receipt of the summons at 10:40 a.m. in a message to reporters.

Under Resolution 39 or the Rules of Procedure on Impeachment Trial, Duterte is given a non-extendible period of 10 calendar days from receipt to file her pleadings in response to the impeachment complaint, and she will be required to appear before the Senate “upon notice.”

The prosecution may likewise file a reply within a non-extendible period of five calendar days from receipt of Duterte’s response.

The Senate convened as an impeachment court on Monday for the trial of the vice president, who is facing accusations of culpable violation of the 1987 Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust.

This follows the impeachment of Duterte by the House of Representatives, which voted 257-25 to impeach her on May 11.
