MANILA – The Office of the Ombudsman will proceed with the filing of plunder charges against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta despite rallies staged by members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

In a report, it said that in an ambush interview with reporters on Wednesday, Remulla said the demonstrations would not affect the filing of the case.

“Nothing has changed, we will file. Walang nagbago,” Remulla said.

Remulla also rejected claims by the INC and Marcoleta’s supporters that the government is practicing selective justice.

“There is no selective justice in this country when it comes to the Ombudsman,” Remulla said.

The Ombudsman earlier disclosed that plunder charges against Marcoleta would be filed this week.

According to the report, the charges stem from campaign donations the senator allegedly received during the 2025 elections.

In response, members of the INC held a surprise rally on June 30 without a permit. As of Wednesday, the group was continuing its demonstration, which was expected to last until 9 p.m.
